Futureproof Music School is a new online hub that specializes in electronic music production. Their curriculum is largely centered around human-created courses, live streams, and mentorship from industry pros.

However, in April 2025 Futureproof launched a new, advanced AI chatbot called Kadence that can view your DAW in real time, listen to any audio file, and speak with you by voice to help navigate each stage of the music creation process.

This is the first time in history that an AI-powered music coach like this has become available. Other AI tools like ChatGPT can only talk about concepts.

Kadence has been trained with deep knowledge of sound design, mixing, and mastering software across all DAWs and popular VSTs. When you upload a track you're working on and ask for feedback, it uses AI audio analysis to find the weak points in the mix. Then it uses an LLM to talk you through ideas for improvement.

Futureproof provided me with free, early access to Kadence and covered the time I spent testing it. However, all ideas expressed in this article are entirely my own.

Futureproof's AI music coach Kadence is currently available in early release mode. You can start experimenting with the text and voice chat immediately, even if you haven't registered a user account yet. Navigate to the site using the link above and you'll see two separate models.

Kadence AI text chat for general music production tips

Basic text chat is available through the support widget in the bottom right corner of the screen. You can have general conversations or upload audio files from your computer to get specific feedback about the mix, ideas about what to do next in the song, and so forth.

The chatbot is convenient for when you're in a quiet space or have a specific question that you want to type up quickly without entering a voice chat.

Voice calls are handled in the Call Kadence module. Begin by clicking on the purple phone icon to initiate the session. You'll hear Kadence greet you and the web browser will ask you for permission to access your computer microphone.

Click the "upward arrow in a box" icon to begin screen sharing, so Kadence can look at your DAW project. This will give the AI additional context about what you're doing and you can ask it questions as you go. If you want Kadence to listen, you'll need to bounce the project audio and upload to the site using the paperclip icon.

Toggle away from the web browser but leave it running in the background while you go about your business in the DAW. You can ask Kadence questions by voice and get feedback at any time.

For continuous and undisturbed access you'll need to sign up with a paid account. However, please be aware that as an early release, Kadence is subject to system capacity and if too many people are using the tool at once, access may be limited temporarily while the team works to increase user capacity.

Kadence creates custom, adaptive learning paths

New students who join Futureproof Music School are presented with an intake form, asking questions about musical experience, goals and challenges. Kadence retains access to all of this information and references it when it's guiding you through the educational experience.

We've already covered the text and voice chat features, but Kadence is also responsible for creating your personalized curriculum. Futureproof offers a range of video courses as part of membership and adds new material every month.

Once you've logged in as a student, you'll have access to a timeline of music courses created just for you, as shown in the screenshot above. The order and focus of those courses is based on your answers to the intake form and will grow over time as Kadence better understands your learning needs.

Here's what those courses look like as you progress through them. The left navigation menu contains several chapters, each with a set of short learning modules within them. The main body of the course contains a combination of video and written summaries.

Each chapter is followed be a short quiz to make sure students have internalized the key ideas from the presentation. Select the discuss tab on the lefthand menu to share thoughts about the curriculum and make any requests.

Human mentors at Futureproof Music School

All of the Futureproof music school courses are made by humans. The courses are written by them and are not generated by artificial intelligence. This decision was made by the school's co-founders in an effort to draw from their staff's real world expertise.

Many of the course creators are involved in the school on an ongoing basis. They live stream with students multiple times per week and some of them are available for hire as private mentors. You don't have to be enrolled in futureproof to get a private lesson.

Check out their website to view the full roster of professional human mentors.

Students also get access to a discord community where they can share notes about the classes, collaborate on music projects, and grow their professional network.

Futureproof's vision for accessible music education

Most artists face at least three major barriers to success; access to mentorship, resources to enroll and commute, and course quality. Founder John Von Seggern is working hard to create a platform where students have access to both human expertise and AI-assisted learning tools.

Few of us can afford to have an expert music mentor available at our beck and call. Even if you can afford unlimited tutoring, there are scheduling constraints. So as far as I'm concerned, an AI coach solves for a universal problem in education.

Kadence makes the learning experience more personal and conversational. Even when information is available in a text book or video course, there's something more enjoyable to me about speaking out loud and talking through problems in real time.

You can visit the FutureProof Music School website to try Kadence for free.
