Dadabots WOW LOL EP: Kawaii Meets AI Deathcore Drill n Bass

Writer's picture: Ezra Sandzer-BellEzra Sandzer-Bell

Dadabots are a prolific experimental AI metal group hailing from Boston, Massachusetts. Their full length album WOW LOL was released on October 24th 2024, featuring ten tracks over 18 minutes and 45 seconds.

Most readers will know Dadabots from their 24/7 generative metal albums. Internet music critics like Needle Drop have celebrated the group's use of generative audio to reimagine niche sub-genres like mathcore.

Their latest album WOW LOL explores new sonic territory, transcending the sounds of Battles and Krallice in pursuit of ever-more-extreme frequencies.

Categorized as kawaii deathcore drill and bass, the songs focus on a relentlessly dark electronic maximalist aesthetic, peppered with a touch of Japanese kitsch.

Fans of Melt Banana and Fantomas may appreciate how Dadabots pushed the indie avant-noise genre into new and uncharted territory with this album.

Album review

The album's title seems apropos. I had to pause and catch my breath several times before finishing. Wow, I thought to myself. That was crazy....

You get the sense that each song must have been shaped in a hydraulic press, smashing 20,000 hand-picked ideas into a 20 minute brick of sound.

Despite the album's density and novelty, Dadabots manages to retain a sense of deliberateness throughout. Songs never feel random. Even in the band's most chaotic moments, their sense of humor is clearly present.

Prepare yourself for a complex, anti-melodic sonic assault on your senses. If you love blastbeats, shrill grindcore vocals, start-stop glitch metal, and high BPM electronic music, the WOW LOL EP is for you.
